BOTANICAL STYLING MASTERCLASS
Monday 10 July to Wednesday 12 July...10am to 3.30pm approximately
The Botanical Styling Masterclass is a 3 day workshop designed with a focus on the links between floral design and the Arts... and you will learn the practical skills of making a hand-tied posy, creating "undone" arrangements, how to wire blooms, and how to weave wreathes and garlands.
DAY 1: The Meaning of Flowers- starts with a foraging excursion to the lovely Nourish Gardens where we will gather scented blooms, herbs and foliage to use in the workshop. You will learn about caring for blooms- and the cultural significance of flowers (a short history of floral symbolism in the visual arts, and a look at the Victorian "language of flowers"). In the workshop you will learn how to make a "txt message" hand-tied posy- a contemporary take on the Victorian nosegay or tussie-mussie.
DAY 2: The Masters- A further look at flowers in art...in the Renaissance and in the Impressionist period; and an introduction to the principles of design in botanical styling. Then put this knowledge to use in creating one "urn" arrangement in inspired by a Dutch Masters still life; and an arrangement in your own favourite vessel inspired by the Impressionists.
DAY 3: Sculptural Florals- a look at the cross over between botanical styling and sculpture; learn about contemporary florists who construct floral installations, and contemporary sculptors who use florals and other natural elements in their sculptures. The wiring and weaving workshop to follow will give you the skills to construct your own garland; wreath or small floral sculpture.
FLORAL CROWN WORKSHOP
